There is no measuring scale glass inside the eyepiece. Any 19mm diameter glass can be inserted inside, for example, with a crosshair, micrometer, or reticle.

Metal, cast or injection-moulded Carl Zeiss Jena parts carry their own identification numbers. This base (foot), into which the vertical stand post is screwed, bears the number 2490 (full designation: Si10 2490).

This is a complete illuminator consisting of the following components:
- lamp housing with lenses for collimating the light beam
- light source with halogen bulb
- mounting holder for the Citoval-2 / Technival-2 microscope
In the user manual (https://www.mikroskop-online.de/Mikroskop%20BDA/30-725-1%20%20TECHNIVAL%202%20%20CITOVAL%202.pdf) these components are marked as items 7 and 8 on page 4.

Mechanically, this illuminator is mounted on an arm (illuminator holder), which can be clearly seen in the video attached to this description. This holder is attached to a special clamp located on the main objective.
The main objective of the Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 / Technival-2 microscopes has two such clamps, allowing two holders and therefore two illuminators to be mounted. This allows the observed object to be illuminated from both sides. This is exactly why many users look for an additional illuminator.

This illuminator requires a transformer. It uses a 6V low-voltage halogen bulb and therefore cannot be connected directly to a mains power outlet.

This rail is often chipped or broken because it is made of a relatively brittle material, while the screw used to clamp it to the stand is made of steel (this can be clearly seen in the following photo: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/photo/carl-zeiss-jena-citoval-2-technival-2-stereomikroskop-tischstativ-mit-fokussiertrieb-99477-7). An impact or even excessive tightening of this screw may cause this mounting rail to chip or break.

This microscope part can help solve the following problems encountered when using a Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 or Technival-2 microscope:
- if you own a microscope that was previously used without its stand or on a custom boom arm and no longer has this mounting rail
- if this rail has been chipped or broken due to impact damage or material fatigue and the microscope can no longer be securely mounted to its table stand

Interestingly, this mounting rail is also an excellent component for adapting a microscope from another manufacturer to a table stand originally designed for Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 / Technival-2 microscopes. It is sufficient to attach this mount to the microscope body (mounting screws are included).

Mechanically, this filter is mounted on the front end of the halogen illuminator (over the light output opening). Its effect is to produce light with a colour similar to that emitted by a cool white LED.

Important: this nameplate does NOT fit the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Technival-2, because the magnification changer in this model has more magnification settings
- Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval / Citoval-2, because these models use a continuously variable ZOOM magnification system

Several decades have passed since the Technival series microscopes were manufactured, and these nameplates often simply fall off by themselves. They are also removed during servicing or repair of this microscope model, which is another common reason why they become lost.

Users solve the problem in various ways:
- they cover the "empty window" with almost anything
- they print a copy of the magnification table from a photograph of the original, glue it onto a piece of cardboard, and use this DIY replacement
- or they produce a replacement using a 3D printer, sometimes even with recessed lettering
