Lomo OI-35 microscope illuminator, Lomo BP power supply 8V / 9V 25W, Lamp for Lomo Biolam microscope

The name of this microscope part.

Lomo OI-35 Microscope Illuminator and Lomo BP Power Supply for Lomo Biolam Microscope

Description of this part for the microscope.

Koehler-standard illumination kit for the Lomo Biolam microscope:
- Lomo BP power supply (transformer) with 220V/230V (outlet) > 8V/9V 25W (illuminator plug)
- ...

Lomo OI-35 Koehler illuminator with field diaphragm
- illuminator plug with Lomo 8V 20W BA15d bulb

Fits microscopes including:
- Lomo Biolam
- Lomo Biolam M
- and certainly many other models (e.g., Polam)

A small, non-Koehler illuminator for these microscopes is the Lomo OI-21, which is mounted on a base like the OI-35 (and therefore does not use a mirror). The Lomo OI-19 is an external illuminator that shines onto the mirror. The Lomo OI-35 uses the same filament bulb as these two, but now allows for Koehler standard lighting.

Koehler standard lighting allows for the best image quality when working with oil immersion or phase contrast.

The last photos are an example of use.

Lomo AU-12 binocular head for Lomo Biolam (Bresser Biolam) microscope (Carl Zeiss Jena)

The name of this microscope part.

Lomo AU-12 Binocular Microscope Head for Lomo microscopes, e.g. Lomo Biolam (and Bresser Biolam) and Carl Zeiss Jena (bino head)

Description of this part for the microscope.

Manufacturer: Lomo (Russia, after 1991)
Model: AU-12 export version without manufacturer's name
Color: newest, white
Magnification: 1.5x
Eyepieces: 23. ...

2 mm
Mounting: 41 mm dovetail (Carl Zeiss Jena standard)

The head features adjustable interpupillary distance and diopter adjustment for one eyepiece.

This export version was sold in Western Europe, primarily under the Bresser brand. Biolam microscopes were sold under this name (thus as Bresser Biolam). NOTE - a small batch of these microscopes was sold under the Bresser Erudit name - but the "Erudit" is now a completely different Bresser microscope.

This is an exact clone of the Carl Zeiss Jena microscope head and is therefore very commonly used for these microscopes.

Note: The 1.5x magnification head requires a relatively large amount of light. Furthermore, the optimal image is obtained with 7x or 8x eyepieces (the maximum is 10x). Higher eyepiece magnification results in "empty magnification" and the image may not be sharp.

Lomo Biolam / MBB-1A KOH-3 microscope condenser | Abbe KON-3 N.A. 1,2 with iris diaphragm

The name of this microscope part.

Lomo Biolam / MBB-1A KOH-3 microscope condenser | Abbe KON-3 N.A. 1,2 with iris diaphragm

Description of this part for the microscope.

Lomo microscope condenser with a numerical aperture of 1.2.

In the manufacturer's catalog this condenser is designated as KOH-3. This is a Cyrillic notation, ...

where the letter "H" corresponds to the Latin "N". This means that the model name written in the Latin alphabet is KON-3, where "KON" is simply an abbreviation of the word condenser.

Basic data:
- Element: Abbe microscope condenser
- Manufacturer: Lomo
- Manufacturer designation: KOH-3
- Numerical aperture: 1.2
- Numerical aperture with top lens removed: 0.3
- Mounting diameter: 37 mm
- Iris diaphragm: YES
- Wide-field lens: YES, with the possibility of moving it into / out of the light path
- filter holder: YES

This condenser also fits microscopes from other manufacturers (e.g. Meopta, Olympus, Carl Zeiss Jena and many others) with a 37 mm condenser mount.

Important: Although the mounting diameter of the KOH-3 condenser is 37 mm, the top lens slightly protrudes beyond the condenser body. For this reason, in some cases installation requires the following steps:
- unscrew the top lens
- install the condenser in the holder
- screw the top lens back in

Note: If you use this condenser with a microscope from a manufacturer other than Lomo, please note that:
- the filter holder is designed for filters with a diameter of 33 mm
- while most manufacturers use the 32 mm standard diameter
As a result, 32 mm filters cannot be used in the KOH-3 condenser without modification - they simply fall out because the holder diameter is too large.

The RMS thread objective is mounted on a dedicated slide-in adapter that allows it to be used in Lomo MIN series and Lomo Polam series microscopes. Of course, the objective can be unscrewed and another objective can be mounted in the adapter.

The objective itself, once removed from the adapter, is a standard objective that can be used in virtually any microscope with an RMS thread. It is a so-called "short objective" (focal length 33 mm). When a 12 mm adapter is added, the total length becomes 45 mm, allowing it to be used with newer microscopes from any manufacturer.

Lomo polarization objectives with RMS thread can be installed in an RMS-M27 adapter and then used in microscopes such as Lomo Biolam M, Lomo Biolam I, Lomo Lumam, or Lomo ML-2. I have also frequently seen such objectives used in Zeiss Axio series microscopes with M27 thread.

The Pol adapter also allows precise centering of the objective relative to the entire optical path - this requires tools (keys / tools).

Info: I have repeatedly seen information stating that this RMS-Pol adapter is compatible with Leitz Wetzlar polarization microscopes - however, I have not personally verified this.

In summary, this objective is dedicated to Lomo MIN-1, MIN-4, MIN-5, MIN-6, MIN-8, Lomo Polam R-113, Polam L-211, Polam L-213, Polam R-311, Polam LMPR microscopes - but it is practically compatible with any microscope from any manufacturer that supports 160 mm objectives.

Additionally, this objective is very often used for macro photography even without a microscope. This objective does not require a cover glass and works in the "direct-projection" technique, meaning it can be connected directly to a camera without additional optics. This allows achieving a very high magnification scale and great depth of field across the entire image when using focus stacking. The fact that this is a polarization objective (i.e. stress-free optics without internal glass tensions) further improves image quality at high magnifications.
