Zeiss Photomicroscope III RS / Universal microscope power supply VWH 200/C 250 f-3b fluorescent igniter HBO 200 W/4 P/N 39 23 34
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Power supply for the HBO 200 fluorescence illuminator used in Zeiss Universal, Zeiss Photomicroscope and other microscopes.
Basic specifications of this power
...
supply: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Model: VWH 200/C 250 f-3b Manufacturer P/N: 39 26 34 (also written as 392634) Supported fluorescence lamps: HBO 200 W/4 L1, HBO 200 W/4 L2 and CSI 250W Input voltage: 220 V – 240 V Power rating: 900 VA
This power supply was supplied as standard with Zeiss Photomicroscope microscopes (commonly known as the Zeiss Phomi) whenever the microscope was equipped with an HBO high-pressure fluorescence illuminator (also referred to as a burner or lamp).
The same or very similar illuminators with identical electrical specifications were used in, among others: - Zeiss Standard WL - Zeiss Photomicroscope - Zeiss Universal - Zeiss Ultraphot - such illuminators were also occasionally adapted for use with other microscope models, including those made by other manufacturers Therefore, this power supply is suitable for all of the applications listed above.
Please note: the last photograph shows a dent in the housing. This does not affect the operation of the unit. Since the dent is located on the underside of the housing, it is not visible when the power supply is standing on a laboratory bench.
IMPORTANT: Always protect your eyesight when working with UV illumination. Never exceed the recommended service life of HBO high-pressure lamps. Always follow the operating instructions supplied with the fluorescence illuminator.

Zeiss Photomicroscope / Ultraphot microscope stage holder support with centering screws
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Holder for the interchangeable microscope stage used in Carl Zeiss microscopes.
This holder fits the following microscopes: - Zeiss Standard WL 89 -
...
Zeiss Universal - Zeiss Photomicroscope (the so-called Zeiss Phomi) - Zeiss Ultraphot
This holder allows interchangeable microscope stages to be mounted, meaning stages that are not screwed directly to the microscope stand. It also features two centering screws.
This holder consists of two parts: - the so-called stage "support", which is mounted onto a dovetail guide using a quick-release clamping mechanism - and the circular stage holder attached to it
If this circular holder for the interchangeable stage is removed, other microscope stages that are not interchangeable but instead mounted with four screws can be attached to the "support".
The Zeiss Universal, Zeiss Ultraphot, the earliest versions of the Zeiss Standard WL, and the first model of the Zeiss Photomicroscope were originally factory-equipped with this component in black.
The Zeiss Photomicroscope II, Zeiss Photomicroscope III, and the later versions of the Zeiss Standard WL were factory-equipped with this component in grey.
The colour of this component has no effect on compatibility. In other words, a component of either colour fits all of the microscope models listed above.
The component presented here is black. If you're looking for the gray version, it's listed in this database under number 99583. There you'll also find a video demonstrating how to disassemble this item, i.e., how to remove it from the microscope stand.

Zeiss Photomicroscope / Ultraphot microscope condenser holder with toothed rack, focusing knob, centering screws and wide field lens
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Complete condenser holder assembly for Carl Zeiss microscopes.
This condenser holder assembly fits the following microscopes: - Zeiss Photomicroscope (the so-
...
called Zeiss Phomi) - Zeiss Standard WL 89 - Zeiss Universal - Zeiss Ultraphot
This complete module consists of the following parts: - the section with the condenser focusing knob for height adjustment, mounted onto a dovetail guide using a quick-release clamping mechanism - the condenser holder with a toothed rack, condenser retaining screw and two centering screws - a swing-out holder for a 32 mm round filter - a swing-out wide field lens used to provide even illumination of the specimen when observing with low-magnification objectives
This holder accepts condensers with a dovetail mount – it is not intended for condensers with a diameter of 37 mm or 39.5 mm.
The Zeiss Universal, Zeiss Ultraphot, the earliest versions of the Zeiss Standard WL, and the first model of the Zeiss Photomicroscope were originally factory-equipped with this component in black.

Zeiss Photomicroscope / Universal microscope light collector with matte filter | holder with frosted ground glass for 6V 15W illuminator lamp
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Illuminator holder with a light-collimating lens and frosted ground glass for Carl Zeiss Standard microscopes.
This microscope component is located inside the
...
microscope base. It transfers the light beam from the illuminator, homogenises it (the image of the filament is diffused by means of a diffuser), and then properly collimates it using a collimating lens. The prepared light beam is then directed to the deflecting mirror (this is a separate microscope component).
This is part of the transmitted-light optical path. The diffuser (frosted ground glass) and the collimating lens are housed inside a metal enclosure that serves as a heat sink for the halogen lamp. The complete assembly forms the illuminator housing.
This particular collector with frosted ground glass was removed from a Carl Zeiss Photomicroscope (also known as Zeiss PM / Zeiss Phomi). It fits the following microscopes (this is not a complete list): - Zeiss Photomicroscope (Zeiss PM / Phomi) - Zeiss Photomicroscope II (Zeiss PM2 / Phomi II) - Zeiss Photomicroscope III RS (Zeiss PM3 RS / Phomi III) - Zeiss Universal - Zeiss Ultraphot - most likely also Zeiss Standard 16 / 18 / WL / WL 89 / GFL microscopes
VERY IMPORTANT: This component is intended for the 6V 15W incandescent illuminator. Zeiss microscopes may be equipped either with a 6V 15W incandescent illuminator (a tubular illuminator inserted into the microscope base) or with an external halogen Lampenhaus mounted to the rear of the microscope base. Microscope versions equipped with a halogen illuminator use a different illuminator holder than the one presented here.
Other names used for this component: - illuminator holder with frosted filter - illuminator tube - illuminator holder with frosted ground glass - sometimes the foreign-language term "Lampenhaus" is also used, although it is not a precise name for this component
The last photographs in the gallery show the base of a Zeiss Photomicroscope III RS. Arrows indicate exactly which component is being offered and where it is located inside the microscope base, making it possible to identify this component unambiguously.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope Ph2 phase annulus insert | phase condenser PH-diaphragm ring
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Interchangeable Ph2 phase annulus (diaphragm ring) with retaining ring for Zeiss West Germany phase contrast condensers.
Interchangeable diaphragm rings (both for
...
phase contrast and darkfield) allow a phase contrast condenser to be configured individually. This makes it possible to use exactly the observation techniques and exactly the microscope objectives required.
Basic parameters of this phase annulus: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany) Condenser marking: "2" For objectives: marked "Ph2", i.e. magnifications from 16x to 40x Material: glass mounted in a metal retaining ring with flange Outside diameter of the retaining ring: 22 mm Phase annulus glass diameter: 16 mm Height of the retaining ring: 3.5 mm
Important: this microscope component (phase annulus / phase diaphragm) is not intended for any specific microscope model. It is a component used to upgrade or repair a microscope phase contrast condenser. It is not intended for upgrading or repairing one specific condenser model. Many Carl Zeiss condenser models have a suitable opening into which this phase annulus can be inserted.
This particular phase annulus was removed from a fluorescence phase contrast condenser — an older version of the Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78. Before installing it in your condenser, carefully compare the shape of its housing and the dimensions of the retaining ring.
The last photograph in the gallery shows the turret disc of a Zeiss phase contrast condenser. An arrow indicates this very phase annulus — the one offered here — already installed.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope clear glass ring insert (blank for DIY annuli) | phase condenser diaphragm carrier, complete insert, clear glass
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Complete clear glass ring insert with retaining ring – without a printed diaphragm (the original coating has been removed) – for Carl Zeiss (West Germany) phase contrast
...
condensers.
Basic parameters of this clear glass insert: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany) Material: glass mounted in a metal retaining ring with flange Outside diameter of the retaining ring: 22 mm Diameter of the clear glass disc: 16 mm Height of the retaining ring: 3.5 mm
Below are some example applications for this clear glass blank. It can be printed or fitted with, among others: - a phase annulus or darkfield annulus matching the original one that was installed in the condenser but has become damaged - an annulus missing from the condenser - coloured Rheinberg rings - oblique illumination diaphragms producing a DIC-like effect - a Hoffmann modulation contrast pattern - phase annuli for objectives made by other manufacturers, for example Carl Zeiss Jena PhV - any completely custom DIY design
This particular clear glass ring insert was removed from a fluorescence phase contrast condenser — an older version of the Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78. Before installing it in your condenser, carefully compare the shape of its housing and the dimensions of the retaining ring.
Interchangeable diaphragm carriers (whether for phase contrast or, for example, darkfield) make it possible to configure a phase contrast condenser exactly as required. This allows the condenser to support precisely the observation techniques and microscope objectives needed.
The clear glass blank presented here is not a component intended for any specific microscope model. Instead, it is used to upgrade or repair a microscope phase contrast condenser. Likewise, it is not dedicated to any specific condenser model. Many Carl Zeiss condenser models have a suitable opening into which this complete insert can be fitted and customised with your own pattern.
The last photograph in the gallery shows the turret disc of a Zeiss phase contrast condenser. An arrow indicates the clear glass ring insert offered here, already installed.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope Ph2 fluorescence-polarization phase annulus insert | phase condenser PH-diaphragm ring
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Replaceable PH2 phase contrast annulus (diaphragm) with retaining ring for Zeiss West Germany phase contrast condensers intended for fluorescence-polarization
...
applications.
Replaceable diaphragms (both for phase contrast and darkfield) for phase contrast condensers allow the condenser to be configured individually. Thanks to this, it can support exactly the observation techniques and exactly the microscope objectives that are required.
Important: by installing the fluorescence-polarization diaphragm presented here, a condenser currently equipped with standard phase contrast diaphragms can be upgraded with this unique function. A detailed description of the capabilities offered by this technique is provided below.
Basic parameters of this phase contrast diaphragm: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany) Condenser marking: "2". On the Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78 this position is marked in blue For microscope objectives: to obtain phase contrast operation, use microscope objectives marked "Ph2", i.e. objectives with magnifications from 16x to 40x Substrate material: glass mounted in a metal holder with a flange Ring material: polarizing film Outside diameter of the retaining ring: 22 mm Glass disc diameter: 16 mm Retaining ring height: 3.5 mm
Important: this component (phase contrast annulus / phase contrast diaphragm) is not intended for a specific microscope model. It is a component for upgrading or repairing a microscope phase contrast condenser. It is not intended for upgrading or repairing any specific condenser model. Many Carl Zeiss condenser models have a matching opening into which this phase contrast annulus can be installed.
In the Carl Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78, the phase annuli in positions 2 and 3 are not ordinary openings in an opaque mask but openings in a polarizing film. The polarization direction of these annuli is N-S, so the direct light beam that forms the phase contrast image is linearly polarized. Since it is polarized, its intensity can be adjusted continuously with a second polarizer – without any mechanical parts, diaphragms or shutters.
This second polarizer can be any pair of rotatable polarizing filters. In the original Zeiss design, this is the Carl Zeiss light control unit P/N 47 72 20 with two independently rotatable polarizers mounted beneath the condenser. This makes it possible to switch on phase contrast while simultaneously reducing the illumination intensity to a safe level.
- when the polarizer is aligned parallel to the N-S axis of the annulus – full transmission, maximum phase contrast beam, full-strength phase contrast image; - when the polarizer is crossed (E-W) – the annulus "goes dark", the objective phase plate no longer receives the direct beam, and the phase contrast image disappears; - when the polarizer is set to intermediate positions – smooth adjustment of the contribution of the phase contrast image.
When the illumination source is a fluorescence lamp (or, of course, an LED FL light source), simply rotating the polarizer beneath the condenser (together with removing the excitation filter) allows the user to switch from a fluorescence image to a conventional phase contrast image. With the polarizer crossed and the excitation filter installed, the phase annulus is extinguished and only pure fluorescence is visible; as the polarizer is rotated, the phase contrast image gradually increases and is superimposed on the fluorescence image. The second polarizer in unit P/N 47 72 20 is additionally used to attenuate the overall illumination intensity (to protect the specimen or to control the specimen's exposure to fluorescence light).
And now an interesting note from the Ultraphot-shop website https://www.microscopeparts.eu/(http://www.the-ultraphot-shop.org.uk/bicolor.htm), © Spike Walker 2007:
Because the annulus is a linear N-S polarizer, it can be used to produce coloured phase contrast: when a two-colour polarizing filter (Cokin type) is placed between the microscope polarizer and the condenser annulus, the specimen takes on the colour of the illuminating annulus against the background colour of the remaining part of the disc – for example, an orange specimen on a green background when using a red-green filter.
This particular phase contrast annulus was removed from a fluorescence phase contrast condenser – an older version of the Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78. Before deciding to install it in your condenser, carefully compare the shape of its housing and the dimensions of the retaining ring.
The last photograph in the gallery shows the turret from a Zeiss phase contrast condenser. The arrow indicates the phase contrast annulus offered here, already installed.

Zeiss Photomicroscope / Standard WL specimen holder for round, rotating mechanical XY microscope stage | side shift mechanism
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Side-travel mechanism complete with specimen holder and spring-loaded specimen clamp for the round rotating XY mechanical microscope stage used on Carl Zeiss microscopes
...
(Oberkochen, West Germany).
These microscope stages were fitted to, among others: - Zeiss Standard WL / WL 89 - Zeiss Universal - Zeiss Photomicroscope (PM / Phomi) - Zeiss Photomicroscope II (PM II / Phomi II) - Zeiss Photomicroscope III (PM3 RS / Phomi III) - Zeiss Ultraphot
The round Zeiss stages used on this microscope series incorporate the front-to-back travel mechanism within the main stage body. The side-to-side movement, however, is integrated into the specimen holder assembly itself. That is exactly the stage component presented here.
This is a component of the microscope stage rather than a component dedicated to a particular microscope model. Since this stage can be fitted to many Carl Zeiss microscopes, this specimen holder assembly is likewise compatible with numerous Carl Zeiss models.
This complete assembly consists of the following components: - side-travel control knob - internal worm shaft providing lateral movement - specimen holder with spring-loaded specimen clamp - the specimen holder is mounted on a carriage travelling along the worm shaft
Important: although this component belongs to a round rotating microscope stage, it is not part of a polarizing stage. It belongs to a standard transmitted-light stage intended for bright-field and dark-field microscopy.
The following dimensions determine compatibility and whether this assembly can be installed on a particular microscope stage: - spacing of the two side locating pins: 33.5 mm, measured from the outside edge of one pin to the outside edge of the other - diameter of the locating pins: 2.5 mm each - centre-to-centre spacing of the locating pins: 31.5 mm - diameter of the central mounting screw securing the assembly to the stage: 3 mm - location of the mounting screw: centrally positioned between the locating pins
If the spacing of the locating pins matches, this assembly can also be installed on microscope stages manufactured by other companies.
Individual components of this assembly are frequently damaged. Replacing the complete assembly offered here can solve, among others, the following problems: - when the side-travel control knob has been broken, bent or otherwise damaged; this is common because the knob protrudes beyond the outline of the microscope stage and is mounted on a relatively slender shaft - when the mounting screw securing the complete assembly to the stage breaks; this is also common because the assembly projects beyond the flat surface of the stage - when the worm shaft becomes worn, causing the specimen holder to move unevenly or, in some cases, preventing movement altogether - when the spring inside the specimen clamp breaks; this is a well-known weakness of this design
The gallery photographs show the exact dimensions of this component. The final photographs additionally show the complete microscope stage from which this specimen holder assembly was removed. An arrow indicates the exact stage component being offered, making visual compatibility easy to verify. The accompanying video also demonstrates the operation of the spring-loaded specimen clamp.
