This is a service element (replacement part) for the trino head (head with photo output), suitable for Carl Zeiss Jena CF-250 microscopes. Please note that this is a microscope element for a microscope part (the trinocular head) and not a part for a specific microscope model.

Carl Zeiss Jena CF-250 microscopes have a modular design, and the microscope part to which the eyepieces are mounted (commonly referred to as the "head", "binocular" or "binocular tube") is a separate element from the angled tube (sometimes the German term "Winkeltubus" is used). If the angled tube has a photographic output, it is referred to as a "Fototubus". It is precisely for this microscope part that the upper main part of the housing is offered and described here.

This is a service element (repair part) of the trinocular head (photo tube), suitable for Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes of the CF-250 series. Please note that this is an element (component) of a microscope part (German: "Fototubus") and not a part dedicated to a specific microscope model.

Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes of the CF-250 series have a modular design and the microscope part to which the eyepieces are mounted (commonly referred to as "head", "binocular" or "twin tube") is a separate element from the angle tube (sometimes the German term "Winkeltubus" is used). If the angle tube has a photographic output, it is referred to as a "photo tube". The Bertrand lens offered and described here is intended specifically for this microscope part.

In microscope models with fluorescence illumination (e.g. Laboval Fluoreszenz or Fluoval), a filter wheel is installed in this head. When the manufacturer installed this head in other microscope models - a blanking plug was placed instead of the filter wheel - and this is exactly the element shown here.

Over the years, this element is very often lost and on the secondary market there are many such photo trino adapters without the blanking plug. The lack of this blanking plug can cause even large contaminants to enter the optics.

By default, in the basic versions of the CZJ Jenaval microscope, a simpler version of this element is installed - only a slide with a filter holder, without a light blocking cover.

In models with EPI illumination (de: Auflicht), such as Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert and Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar, the transmitted light illuminator cover allows the transmitted light to be completely shut off when working exclusively with EPI illumination.

In such a case, so that there is no open hole and no contamination can enter the inside of the microscope, this opening can be closed with this blanking plug.

This element is used when transmitted light is temporarily not needed. The illuminator itself does not need to be removed - instead, the light output should simply be completely blocked, and this light output is the collector lens itself. This collector lens is located inside the microscope base, above the angle mirror and below the condenser.

When can there be a need to completely block transmitted light? Most often when:
- a microscope with DIA illumination (transmitted light) and EPI illumination (reflected light) is available, but temporarily only reflected light operation is needed
- a microscope previously working with transmitted light (for example Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival) is being converted into a microscope intended to work permanently only with reflected light (for example converting an Amplival into a Vertival)
- for example a Fluoval microscope is used and it is undesirable that "the lower light is visible"

Based on the Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscope, whose modular design allows for various configurations, several microscope models were created:
- Vertival
- Epival
- Amplival Interphako
- Amplival Pol

and these microscopes differ from each other, among other things, by different arms. The arm from the Amplival model has the simplest construction.

By owning different arms and one microscope - you can swap them according to your needs and use different functionalities, as if you had two microscope models.

This element consists of the following components:
- fixing screw securing the arm to the microscope body
- holder enabling the mounting of components with a 41 mm mounting diameter (e.g. binocular head)
- fixing screw securing this component (e.g. head). This element is very often damaged.
- guides (slides) enabling the attachment of an interchangeable nosepiece

A device with a matching mounting diameter that is placed on the arm from above can be, for example:
- head with a built-in inclined tube
- intermediate tube (German: Zwischentubus)
- magnification changer (Optovar)
- EPI reflected light illuminator
- polarization analyzer module
- and others, because as mentioned above, the Amplival class microscopes have a modular design and there are many accessories available for them

This microscope arm can solve the following issues related to Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival class microscopes:
- if your microscope is missing this element, which happens with microscopes available on the secondary market
- if you own another variant of a microscope from this class, e.g. Carl Zeiss Jena Vertival, and you want to convert it into a "regular" Amplival
- if you own such an arm, but it is of poor quality or has damaged individual components
- if you need one of the component parts of this arm
- if you are building your own DIY project and need a mount compatible with the Carl Zeiss Jena standard

Metal, cast, and injection-moulded parts manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena have their own identification numbers. This part bears the number: 2709/2 (full designation: Si10 CZ 2709/2).

Mechanically, this "block with empty slots" is attached to the casting numbered Si10 CZ 2708, which is the objective nosepiece block.

In the Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 stereomicroscope, continuous magnification adjustment (known as zoom) is implemented inside the microscope body (Greenough system), while the objective lens has a fixed focal length.

The set also includes a threaded retaining ring that allows this assembly to be mounted to the microscope body.

attach the microscope to the stand. In the Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 microscope user manual (https://www.mikroskop-online.de/Mikroskop%20BDA/30-725-1%20%20TECHNIVAL%202%20%20CITOVAL%202.pdf, page 4), the stand component to which this rail is fitted is identified as part number 35.

This rail is often chipped or broken because it is made of a relatively brittle material, while the screw used to clamp it to the stand is made of steel (this can be clearly seen in the following photo: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/photo/carl-zeiss-jena-citoval-2-technival-2-stereomikroskop-tischstativ-mit-fokussiertrieb-99477-7). An impact or even excessive tightening of this screw may cause this mounting rail to chip or break.

This microscope part can help solve the following problems encountered when using a Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 or Technival-2 microscope:
- if you own a microscope that was previously used without its stand or on a custom boom arm and no longer has this mounting rail
- if this rail has been chipped or broken due to impact damage or material fatigue and the microscope can no longer be securely mounted to its table stand

Interestingly, this mounting rail is also an excellent component for adapting a microscope from another manufacturer to a table stand originally designed for Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 / Technival-2 microscopes. It is sufficient to attach this mount to the microscope body (mounting screws are included).

Carl Zeiss Jena wide field microscope heads (those designed for 30 mm eyepieces) have two such components (two prism covers). They protect the prisms of the right and left eyepieces. Both covers are identical and interchangeable, so there is no constructional difference between the right-hand and left-hand cover.

This is a component for a microscope head, not for a specific microscope model.

This component fits microscope heads designed for 30 mm eyepieces used, among others, in the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalab
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenatech
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert

Some Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalab and Jenamed microscopes (for example the Jenamed Fluorescence) were factory-equipped with binocular heads accepting 23.2 mm eyepieces. In that case this end cap is **not** compatible with that binocular head. By "that" I specifically mean the binocular head, as this is a component of the head rather than of the microscope itself.

Interestingly, 30 mm wide-field binocular heads are also occasionally fitted to older microscopes from the Mikroval series (for example Ergaval and Amplival). When combined with GF-Planachromat or GF-Planapochromat objectives (the latter also used on the Docuval), this provides arguably the best optical combination available for Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes with a 160 mm tube length.

The Carl Zeiss Jena wide-field binocular head for 30 mm eyepieces is mechanically the same device as the Baader Mark V binocular viewer used with astronomical telescopes. They are based on the same binocular head; the Baader Mark V differs only in having a modified mounting interface, astronomical eyepiece adapters and, in some versions, different external markings. Consequently, the component offered here is also compatible with the Baader Mark V binocular viewer.

Metal cast or injection-moulded components manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena have their own part numbers. This component is marked with the number 2630 (full designation: Si10 2630 / Si10 CZ 2630). In addition, the number "1" or "2" appears next to the part number to indicate whether it is the cover for the right-hand or left-hand prism. This is the only difference, because mechanically the right-hand and left-hand covers are identical.

objective nosepiece and the microscope arm. In the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope, a fluorescence filter cube slides into position above the objective revolver. Inside this holder there is a longitudinal dovetail guide along which the fluorescence filter cubes slide. It also contains a spring steel detent that provides a distinct "click" to indicate the filter position as the fluorescence filter cube is moved along the dovetail guide.

The objective revolver is attached to this holder with screws, and the complete assembly consisting of the holder and objective turret is then screwed to the microscope arm.

The complete objective nosepiece module for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar or Jenaval microscopes consists of:
- the objective revolver (also called the objective nosepiece, nosepiece disc or objective turret)
- the intermediate mounting bracket (nosepiece holder).

In both microscope models, the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar and the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval, the first component—the objective revolver—is identical and interchangeable between the two models. Only the intermediate mounting bracket differs, as it attaches the revolver to the microscope arm. In other words, the nosepiece holder used in the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope is different from the one used in the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscope, but both holders have exactly the same objective revolvers attached to them.

This listing includes only the intermediate holder for the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar model, without the objective nosepiece.

Interestingly, this component is made of aluminium, whereas the corresponding component performing the same function in the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscope is manufactured from a ZnAl alloy. Cast or injection-moulded ZnAl components made by Carl Zeiss Jena carry identification numbers that allow them to be identified. In the Jenaval microscope this number is 2643 (full marking: Si10 CZ 2643). The objective nosepiece holder used in the Jenalumar does not carry such a number.

Another useful piece of information is that the sliding fluorescence filter cube from the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed Fluorescence microscope fits the dovetail guide incorporated into this nosepiece holder.

The gallery includes photographs of the complete assembly consisting of the objective nosepiece and its holder for the Jenalumar microscope, making it clear how these two components are connected.

This database also contains, under item number 99678, the separate objective revolver without the holder.

The complete set presented here consists of three components:
1. a small metal plate marked with the numbers 1 to 8 – these identify the terminal positions
2. an electrical tab terminal strip with eight terminals, housed in a plastic body
3. the rear sheet-metal cover of the microscope arm with the printed 6V illumination wiring diagram

This set was removed from a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope.

Components "1" and "2" (the numbered plate and the electrical tab terminal strip) are universal and fit the following microscope models:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol

Component "3" (the rear sheet-metal cover of the microscope arm)
- fits the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope
- does not fit the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscope
- I do not know whether it fits the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert or Jenapol microscopes, as I have not personally tested this.

The 6V supply wires coming from the power supply are connected to the input terminals on the underside of this electrical tab terminal strip. The power supply is built into the microscope base. The lampenhaus fitted with a 6V 25W halogen bulb is connected to the output terminals on the upper side. In the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval and Jenalumar microscopes this supplies the transmitted-light illuminator. In the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert microscope it supplies the reflected-light illuminator.

In microscope versions equipped with two illuminators, only one of them can be powered from the power supply built into the microscope base, because the built-in power supply has a maximum output power of 25 W. The second illuminator requires an external power supply appropriate for the particular light source (a halogen lamp, a fluorescence light source, or—in the case of LED illuminators—an LED power supply with a dimmer).

This database also contains, under item number 99694, the same component together with the rear sheet-metal cover of the microscope arm from a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscope. You can compare the two versions to see the difference in the size of the rear sheet-metal cover between the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval and Jenalumar models.

The complete assembly (objective revolver ↔ holder ↔ microscope arm) is connected together with screws.

The complete objective nosepiece module for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar or Jenaval microscopes consists of:
- the objective revolver (also called the objective nosepiece, nosepiece disc or objective turret)
- the intermediate mounting bracket (nosepiece holder).

In both microscope models, the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar and the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval, the first component—the objective revolver—is identical and interchangeable between the two models. Only the intermediate mounting bracket differs, as it attaches the revolver to the microscope arm. In other words, the nosepiece holder used in the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscope is different from the one used in the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope, but both holders have exactly the same objective revolvers attached to them.

Description of this part for the microscope.

It is not an illuminator holder in the literal sense. The illuminator is secured with screws to the sides of the microscope's vertical arm. Instead, the central circular opening in this component is designed to receive and accurately position the cylindrical light-output section of the illuminator (lamphouse).

Microscopes designed for reflected-light operation (either exclusively or in addition to transmitted light), such as the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar, Jenavert and Jenapol-U, have a different upper horizontal microscope arm from models intended exclusively for transmitted light, such as the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval. The reflected-light arm includes a slot for filter sliders, a slot for an aperture slider and, of course, an angled mirror.

Interestingly, this component is also present in Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscopes, even though the standard version of this model is not equipped with an EPI reflected-light illuminator. Since it is not used there, it is normally covered by the rear sheet-metal cover of the microscope arm. This is exactly why the rear cover of the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope is shorter than that of the Jenaval model—it does not have to cover this component (see item no. 99679 in this database).

The complete set presented here consists of three components:
1. a small metal plate marked with the numbers 1 to 8 – these identify the terminal positions
2. an electrical tab terminal strip with eight terminals, housed in a plastic body
3. the rear sheet-metal cover of the microscope arm with the printed 6V illumination wiring diagram

This set was removed from a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscope.

Components "1" and "2" (the numbered plate and the electrical tab terminal strip) are universal and fit the following microscope models:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol

Component "3" (the rear sheet-metal cover of the microscope arm)
- fits the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscope
- does not fit the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope
- I do not know whether it fits the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert or Jenapol microscopes, as I have not personally tested this.

The 6V supply wires coming from the power supply are connected to the input terminals on the underside of this electrical tab terminal strip. The power supply is built into the microscope base. The lampenhaus fitted with a 6V 25W halogen bulb is connected to the output terminals on the upper side. In the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval and Jenalumar microscopes this supplies the transmitted-light illuminator.

In microscope versions equipped with two illuminators, only one of them can be powered from the power supply built into the microscope base, because the built-in power supply has a maximum output power of 25 W. The second illuminator requires an external power supply appropriate for the particular light source (a halogen lamp, a fluorescence light source, or—in the case of LED illuminators—an LED power supply with a dimmer).

This database also contains, under item number 99679, the same component together with the rear sheet-metal cover of the microscope arm from a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope. This cover serves two main functions in the microscope:
- it protects the power supply and all electrical components built into the microscope base, protecting both the electrical system and the user from electric shock
- it protects the optical components located inside the microscope base from dust and other contamination

The base of Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval, Jenalumar and similar microscopes contains part of the optical light path, and this area occasionally requires maintenance, especially cleaning. Since these microscopes are now more than 30 years old, it is not uncommon to find examples with this cover missing because it has been lost over the years.

This component serves almost exclusively a cosmetic purpose. At both the top and bottom of the sheet-metal cover there are openings through which the long screws pass. These screws secure the transmitted-light lamp housing to the rear of the microscope body (at the bottom) or the reflected-light EPI lamp housing (at the top).

Each microscope has two of these sheet-metal covers—one on the left side and one on the right. Both are identical, so there is no difference between the left-hand and right-hand cover.

The cover is attached using ordinary adhesive and, after many years, it may simply come loose and fall off. These covers are also sometimes lost during repairs or maintenance, so older microscopes are often missing them. Reattaching an original cover is an easy way to restore the microscope to its original appearance.

In Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscopes, the large HBO 250W fluorescence illuminator is attached to the Spiegelhaus for light beam splitting. It has two such heat sinks – one at the bottom and one at the top of the lamp housing.

For certainty, the photo gallery shows the exact dimensions of this element. The last photo shows the complete illuminator from which this element was removed, allowing the compatibility to be confirmed with certainty.
