Zeiss DRC / DV 4 STEMI stereo microscope right prism holder and eyepiece tubus support

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss DRC / DV 4 STEMI stereo microscope right prism holder and eyepiece tubus support

Description of this part for the microscope.

Microscope spare part for servicing the heads of microscopes from the Stemi D series by Carl Zeiss West Germany.

This element performs two functions:
- ...

it is the right metal holder for the eyepiece prism
- at the same time it is the mounting thread into which the eyepiece tube is screwed

Important: this is the RIGHT prism holder. In the head of the Zeiss DRC microscope (and other Stemi D series models) there are two such holders - left and right - and they are not identical.

This element is made of an alloy that very often breaks (this can be seen in one of the last photos in the gallery).

Fits the following models:
- Zeiss D
- Zeiss DR
- Zeiss DRC
- Zeiss DV-4

This microscope part may solve the following problems occurring in a Zeiss Stemi D, DR, DRC or DV 4 microscope:
- eyepiece tube cannot be screwed in
- thread inside the head is broken
- damaged microscope head

In the last photos, an arrow shows where this element is located in the head to allow correct identification.

Olympus BX40 microscope metal sleeve for coarse and fine focus shaft | repair spare part

The name of this microscope part.

Olympus BX40 microscope metal sleeve for coarse and fine focus shaft | repair spare part

Description of this part for the microscope.

Service part (repair element) for Olympus BX microscopes. This is a metal sleeve in which the coarse and fine focus shaft moves. This element is located inside the ...

microscope stand and is not visible from the outside.

This is a part removed from the stand of an Olympus BX40 microscope. It has been tested and cleaned - and is suitable for use as a service element for repairing a damaged microscope. Many smaller Olympus service elements do not have their own catalog numbers or commercial names, therefore in the last photos in the gallery I indicate with an arrow exactly which element is being offered and where it is located inside the microscope. In this description some names used are descriptive rather than official technical commercial names.

Olympus BX series microscopes use identical assemblies in many different models, therefore there is a high probability that this element - although removed from a BX40 model - is also compatible with other BX series models (for example BX41, BX43, BX50, BX51 etc.). However, before deciding to install such an element in an Olympus BX microscope, it is advisable to first carefully compare shapes and dimensions or ask appropriate questions on forums and in Olympus BX microscope user groups.

Olympus BX40 microscope Focus Rack P/N AB872900 | repair spare part

The name of this microscope part.

Olympus BX40 microscope Focus Rack P/N AB872900 | repair spare part

Description of this part for the microscope.

Service part (repair element) for Olympus BX microscopes. This is a focus rack gear for microscope focusing, working together with the main focusing block. ...

This is a part removed from the stand of an Olympus BX40 microscope. It has been tested and cleaned - and is suitable for use as a service element for repairing a damaged microscope. In the manufacturer's catalog this element carries part number AB872900.

Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope coarse and fine focus shaft | repair spare part

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope coarse and fine focus shaft | repair spare part

Description of this part for the microscope.

Service microscope part (repair element) for Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscopes and related models.

This is the coarse and fine focus shaft, ...

meaning the shaft with focusing knobs mounted on both ends on the sides of the microscope. Part of this shaft contains a toothed rack, or more precisely speaking, it is a toothed shaft. In the item shown and offered here, the fine focus knob (micro focus) is mounted on the left end of the shaft. Please note that the left and right knobs are identical - however, screws of different lengths are used to attach them: the left knob is attached with a 12 mm screw, while the right knob uses a 16 mm screw. Detailed information about the screws used to attach the coarse and fine focus knobs can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/MikroskopyPZO/posts/pfbid0x2tFPHAEqjn4B7BRsvm2vAt9yyuuSM836QS6K4951GqeUFpU2FJH8YXfFFxbz3cPl

Such focus shafts are used in the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival (and its variants: Fluoval, Epival, Vertival, Interphako)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Metaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Docuval

This coarse and fine focus shaft may help solve the following problems in Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscopes and related models:
- if the shaft became bent, causing a noticeable jump while rotating it (a very common failure)
- if the screw holding the fine focus knob broke off or snapped, leaving part of the screw inside the shaft
- if the left fine focus knob is missing or damaged
- if the thread on the right or left end of the shaft, where the fine focus knobs are attached, is damaged
- if the toothed rack on the shaft (because such a shaft is effectively a toothed shaft) becomes damaged

Wild M420 / Leica M420 Makroskop - light path slider for macroscope trinocular photo head

The name of this microscope part.

Wild M420 / Leica M420 Makroskop - light path slider for macroscope trinocular head

Description of this part for the microscope.

Light path slider for the trinocular head of the Wild Heerbrugg M420 Makroskop (macroscope) (Leica M420).

This is exactly the light path slider used to switch the ...

prism inside the microscope head and to select the light path: to the eyepieces / to the photo output.

This light path slider is an element that very often gets broken and then requires replacement.

Due to the similar design, it is very likely that this component will also fit the photographic trinocular head of the following macroscope models:
- Wild M400
- Wild M450 (another name: Leica M450)

The macroscope is an advanced stereoscopic microscope with a high-resolution ZOOM objective.

Why are dual names Wild and Leica used? The M400 macroscope was manufactured by Wild Heerbrugg (Switzerland). Later, the Wild company was acquired by Leica and the M420 and M450 models may be labeled either Wild M420 / Wild M450 or Leica M420 / Leica M450. Note: this is different for the Wild M400 model - it does not have a Leica equivalent, because "Leica M400" is a model of a surgical microscope.

Wild M20 microscope fine focus bearing mechanism, Heerbrugg Switzerland

The name of this microscope part.

Wild M20 microscope fine focus bearing mechanism, Heerbrugg Switzerland

Description of this part for the microscope.

FMicrowcope fine focus bearing mechanism of the precision movement system (micro adjustment) for the Wild M20 microscope by Wild Heerbrugg, Switzerland. ...

This microscope element is responsible for precise (fine / micro) focusing of the microscopic specimen image.

Mechanically, this module is located between the holder to which the microscope stage is attached and the main focusing block with the focusing knobs. Thanks to this, it transfers the rotational movement of the fine focus control into the vertical movement of the microscope stage.

It is worth noting that in the Wild Heerbrugg M20 microscope this mechanism is based on two planes moving on linear guides with bearing balls, rather than on a gear system as used in most microscopes. However, the method of lifting the entire mechanism using a pin is similar to that found in microscopes such as the Lomo MBI-1 or Carl Zeiss Jena Lg.

Wild M20 microscope coarse focus toothed rack, Heerbrugg Switzerland

Description of this part for the microscope.

Rack gear (called a "rack") of the coarse focus mechanism (macro focus) for the Wild M20 microscope by Wild Heerbrugg Switzerland.

This element transfers the ...

rotational movement of the knobs (control knobs) into vertical movement raising and lowering the microscope arm.
Important distinction: in the Wild Heerbrugg M20 microscope, coarse focusing is achieved by movement of the microscope arm, while precise focusing is achieved by movement of the stage on which the microscope slide with the specimen is placed.

Mechanically, this rack gear is mounted exactly between the block with the knobs and the microscope arm.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed / Jenaval microscope lighting brightness adjustment knob

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed / Jenaval microscope lighting brightness adjustment knob

Description of this part for the microscope.

Light intensity adjustment knob for Carl Zeiss Jena CF-250 group microscopes.

Compatible with the following Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes:
- Jenamed (models ...

Variant, Cytology, Hematology, Histology, Jenamed-2, Fluorescence)
- Jenapol
- Jenavert
- Jenaval
- Jenatech
- Jenalumar

Please note - this is only the adjustment knob, that is the knob used by the microscope user to make the illumination brighter or dimmer. It is not a potentiometer and therefore not a part of the electrical circuit.

This knob features the characteristic white cap used on Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes, which is often lost during decades of microscope use.

Mechanically, this knob is attached to the potentiometer. The fixing screw is covered by a white metal cap.

In the last photo I indicate with an arrow exactly which element it is and where it is located in a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscope. In Jenaval and Jenalumar microscopes it is located on the microscope base.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscope transmitted light path tube with frosted filter and collimating lens

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscope transmitted light path tube with frosted filter and collimating lens

Description of this part for the microscope.

Transmitted light path with frosted filter for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscopes.

Fits the following microscopes from Carl Zeiss Jena:
- Jenamed Variant
- ...

Jenamed Cytology
- Jenamed Hematology
- Jenamed Histology
- Jenamed-2
- Jenamed Fluorescence

This is a microscope element placed in the microscope base. It transmits the light beam from the illuminator, unifies it (blurs the filament image using a diffuser), and then properly focuses it using a collimating lens. The light beam prepared in this way then hits an angular mirror (this is a separate element).

This microscope part is known on the secondary market among DIY enthusiasts creating their own optics projects and is frequently used by them.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscope condenser wide field lens

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscope condenser wide field lens

Description of this part for the microscope.

Wide-field lens for the microscope condenser used in Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscopes.

It fits the following Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes:
- ...

Jenamed Variant
- Jenamed Cytology
- Jenamed Hematology
- Jenamed-2
- Jenamed Fluorescence

Important: this element is not used in the Jenamed Histology model. In this microscope version, a flip-out type condenser is used, and instead of the wide-field lens there is a polarizer. In other words - this element does not fit the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed Histology microscope.

This lens enables uniform illumination of the specimen when working with low magnification objectives. It is most commonly used with 3.2x and 5x objectives. It is an element installed in the microscope base and is part of the transmitted light illumination system.

Mechanically, this lens has a pin that extends outside the housing so that the user can insert or remove the lens from the optical path. It is mounted below the condenser aperture diaphragm. In Jenamed microscopes, the condenser, the aperture diaphragm, and this wide-field lens are all separate modules.

Metal cast or injection-moulded microscope parts manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena carry their own part numbers. This condenser module bears number 2711-1 (full marking: Si10 CZ 2711-1).

As far as I know, the same mechanism is used in the following Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes:
- Ergaval
- Amplival
- Fluoval
- Vertival
- Epival
- Docuval
- Metaval
- Peraval

This component is installed onto the shaft by sliding the internal tab into the keyway groove on the shaft. After tightening the round slotted nut, a locking mechanism is created that prevents the nut from loosening on its own due to vibration.

Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope coarse and fine focus split taper-lock bushing

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope coarse and fine focus split taper-lock bushing

Description of this part for the microscope.

As far as I know, the same mechanism is used in the following Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes:
- Ergaval
- Amplival
- Fluoval
- Vertival
- Epival
- Docuval
- Metaval
- Peraval

This component acts as a resistance regulator and functions as a friction brake. Tightening the outer element compresses the tapered section of the bushing, causing the slotted bushing to contract at the slit. This increases friction on the shaft and makes the entire mechanism move with greater resistance.

Note - in some descriptions available on the Internet, this component is referred to as a "piece of wood".

Leitz Dialux Wetzlar mechanical manipulator for XY microscope stage

The name of this microscope part.

Leitz Dialux Wetzlar mechanical manipulator for XY microscope stage

Description of this part for the microscope.

Complete manipulator of the mechanical XY stage for Leitz Wetzlar microscopes.

This is a complete control assembly for the mechanical microscope stage, ...

allowing precise movement of the specimen in both the X and Y axes of the stage plane. The manipulator consists of two coaxial knobs, two independent drive shafts and the fixing elements that attach it to the stage mechanism.

This particular manipulator was removed from a Leitz Dialux microscope. The last photograph in the gallery shows the entire microscope stage from which it was dismounted. The manufacturer also used the same or very similar stages in many other Leitz Wetzlar microscope models, which is why the manipulator may also be compatible with other models from this company.

On the second-hand market and in service documentation one encounters many names referring to this assembly. The most commonly used terms include, among others:
- stage manipulator
- XY stage manipulator
- mechanical stage drive
- stage control knobs
- specimen mover
- coaxial stage drive
- stage drive assembly
- mechanical stage control
- manual XY stage drive
- stage actuator mechanism

Such manipulators very often suffer mechanical damage during transport of the microscope. Because they protrude beyond the outline of the stand, it is precisely they that absorb the impact energy first — in the event of a fall or improper packaging of the instrument.

In many cases it is not the entire manipulator that is damaged, but only one of its components. Most often these are the knobs, the drive shafts, the coaxial sleeves or the fixing elements. For this reason, this database also contains all the most important constituent parts of this (and other) manipulators, offered separately as service elements.

Damage to the manipulator does not make further work with the microscope impossible. The specimen can be moved by hand, or a simple specimen holder without an XY movement mechanism can be fitted. Such a solution works well at low magnifications; however, when working with objectives of magnifications greater than 40x (e.g. 60x, 63x, 80x or 100x), precise manual movement of the specimen becomes very difficult. At total magnifications exceeding about 400x, even a slight movement of the hand shifts the image by a considerable distance within the field of view. The mechanical manipulator enables very smooth, controlled and repeatable movement of the specimen in both axes, which is particularly important during observation with oil immersion and when producing photographic documentation.

The photographs in the gallery show the exact dimensions of the complete manipulator. The last photograph presents the entire microscope stage together with an arrow indicating the mounting location of this element, which makes it possible to identify the offered part unambiguously.

Carl Zeiss Jena Lg / Lumipan microscope sliding ring for rotating circular stage with mounting support for stage holder

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Lg / Lumipan microscope sliding ring for rotating circular stage with mounting support for stage holder

Description of this part for the microscope.

Sliding ring of the round, rotating microscope stage by Carl Zeiss Jena from microscopes of the L-Stativ class.

This microscope element performs two functions in ...

the microscope stage:
1. It fastens the stage to the stage holder — that is, indirectly to the microscope stand. This ring has a groove for the spring screw mounted centrally in that holder, as well as two cut-outs at the sides — for the centring screws. It is not, however, a dovetail — in Carl Zeiss Jena L-Stativ microscopes the stage is mounted on a wide ring.
2. Since it is a sliding ring, it is precisely this part that makes it possible to rotate the stage all the way around, even though this is not a polarizing stage.

This is a service part for the repair of a stage in which exactly this element has been damaged. It is not a complete microscope stage.

This ring contains a screw that makes it possible to lock the position, that is, to press the ring tight so that it does not rotate. This screw very often bends completely (for example during transport) or even breaks off. Breakage most commonly occurs when the sliding grease has dried out completely and someone tries to turn the stage by pushing on this screw.

Rotating stages of this kind were used in microscopes of the L-Stativ class, among others:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lg
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lumipan
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lu
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lr

Remember that microscopes and microscope parts made by the Soviet company LOMO were often clones of Carl Zeiss Jena products. It is therefore possible that this element will also fit a Lomo microscope stage — but the dimensions of this part should definitely be compared very carefully first.

Carl Zeiss Jena produced such stages from the 1930s until roughly the end of the 1960s. During that period minor construction details were changed many times, so it is very important to correctly identify the model of the stage from which this element was removed.

- in the photo gallery a millimetre scale is visible next to every photograph
- the last photographs show a disassembled microscope stage, with an arrow indicating where this element is located in the stage
- the final photographs, in turn, show the complete Carl Zeiss Jena Lg microscope with this stage fitted

All of this makes it possible to confirm visually that this is exactly the element you are looking for.

The ring has a diameter of 41.3 mm and three mounting holes used to attach it to the condenser. It also features a tapered recess that engages with the locating pin in the condenser holder, ensuring correct positioning of the condenser.

When attached to a condenser made by another manufacturer, this ring makes it possible to use, for example, the PZO KPI-2 DIC condenser and dozens of other condensers on Zeiss Standard-class microscopes.

Note regarding the mounting diameter: during nearly 50 years of production of this microscope series, the dovetail diameter was always approximately 42 mm, but it was never exactly identical. Depending on the production year, the material (plastic, aluminium or brass), and the condenser type (classic Abbe condenser or phase contrast disc condenser), the actual diameter may range from just over 41 mm to almost 43 mm. This relatively large tolerance is a consequence of the condenser holder design. The holder incorporates spring loading, a locating pin and centring/locking screws. As a result, condensers fitted with a mounting ring between approximately 41 mm and 43 mm in diameter can almost always be mounted securely and remain well centred.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope Ph2 phase annulus insert | phase condenser PH-diaphragm ring

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope Ph2 phase annulus insert | phase condenser PH-diaphragm ring

Description of this part for the microscope.

Interchangeable Ph2 phase annulus (diaphragm ring) with retaining ring for Zeiss West Germany phase contrast condensers.

Interchangeable diaphragm rings (both for ...

phase contrast and darkfield) allow a phase contrast condenser to be configured individually. This makes it possible to use exactly the observation techniques and exactly the microscope objectives required.

Basic parameters of this phase annulus:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany)
Condenser marking: "2"
For objectives: marked "Ph2", i.e. magnifications from 16x to 40x
Material: glass mounted in a metal retaining ring with flange
Outside diameter of the retaining ring: 22 mm
Phase annulus glass diameter: 16 mm
Height of the retaining ring: 3.5 mm

Important: this microscope component (phase annulus / phase diaphragm) is not intended for any specific microscope model. It is a component used to upgrade or repair a microscope phase contrast condenser. It is not intended for upgrading or repairing one specific condenser model. Many Carl Zeiss condenser models have a suitable opening into which this phase annulus can be inserted.

This particular phase annulus was removed from a fluorescence phase contrast condenser — an older version of the Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78. Before installing it in your condenser, carefully compare the shape of its housing and the dimensions of the retaining ring.

The last photograph in the gallery shows the turret disc of a Zeiss phase contrast condenser. An arrow indicates this very phase annulus — the one offered here — already installed.

Zeiss Standard GFL / WL microscope 32 mm filter holder for condenser carrier

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss Standard GFL / WL microscope 32 mm filter holder for condenser carrier

Description of this part for the microscope.

Holder for round microscope filters mounted on the condenser holder of Carl Zeiss Standard series microscopes.

This particular filter holder was removed from a ...

Zeiss Standard GFL microscope, but it also fits condenser holders used, among others, in the following microscopes:
- Zeiss Standard 14
- Zeiss Standard 16
- Zeiss Standard 18
- Zeiss Standard WL / WL 89

This filter holder accepts filters with a diameter of 32 mm.

This is not only a replacement service part used when the original filter holder has been damaged (for example, if the spring tab or retaining latch has broken). Many owners of Carl Zeiss Standard microscopes modify their microscopes by attaching another (additional) filter holder to the condenser holder. This is exactly the component required for such a DIY modification.

This filter holder can also be attached to the condenser holder of the following microscopes:
- Zeiss Universal
- Zeiss Photomicroscope
- Zeiss Ultraphot
However, these microscope models were originally equipped with a different type of filter holder.

The last photographs in the gallery show examples of use — this filter holder fitted with a blue filter and with a DIY insert made using a 3D printer.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope clear glass ring insert (blank for DIY annuli) | phase condenser diaphragm carrier, complete insert, clear glass

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope clear glass ring insert (blank for DIY annuli) | phase condenser diaphragm carrier, complete insert, clear glass

Description of this part for the microscope.

Complete clear glass ring insert with retaining ring – without a printed diaphragm (the original coating has been removed) – for Carl Zeiss (West Germany) phase contrast ...

condensers.

Basic parameters of this clear glass insert:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany)
Material: glass mounted in a metal retaining ring with flange
Outside diameter of the retaining ring: 22 mm
Diameter of the clear glass disc: 16 mm
Height of the retaining ring: 3.5 mm

Below are some example applications for this clear glass blank. It can be printed or fitted with, among others:
- a phase annulus or darkfield annulus matching the original one that was installed in the condenser but has become damaged
- an annulus missing from the condenser
- coloured Rheinberg rings
- oblique illumination diaphragms producing a DIC-like effect
- a Hoffmann modulation contrast pattern
- phase annuli for objectives made by other manufacturers, for example Carl Zeiss Jena PhV
- any completely custom DIY design

This particular clear glass ring insert was removed from a fluorescence phase contrast condenser — an older version of the Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78. Before installing it in your condenser, carefully compare the shape of its housing and the dimensions of the retaining ring.

Interchangeable diaphragm carriers (whether for phase contrast or, for example, darkfield) make it possible to configure a phase contrast condenser exactly as required. This allows the condenser to support precisely the observation techniques and microscope objectives needed.

The clear glass blank presented here is not a component intended for any specific microscope model. Instead, it is used to upgrade or repair a microscope phase contrast condenser. Likewise, it is not dedicated to any specific condenser model. Many Carl Zeiss condenser models have a suitable opening into which this complete insert can be fitted and customised with your own pattern.

The last photograph in the gallery shows the turret disc of a Zeiss phase contrast condenser. An arrow indicates the clear glass ring insert offered here, already installed.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope Ph2 fluorescence-polarization phase annulus insert | phase condenser PH-diaphragm ring

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss (West Germany) microscope Ph2 fluorescence-polarization phase annulus insert | phase condenser PH-diaphragm ring

Description of this part for the microscope.

Replaceable PH2 phase contrast annulus (diaphragm) with retaining ring for Zeiss West Germany phase contrast condensers intended for fluorescence-polarization ...

applications.

Replaceable diaphragms (both for phase contrast and darkfield) for phase contrast condensers allow the condenser to be configured individually. Thanks to this, it can support exactly the observation techniques and exactly the microscope objectives that are required.

Important: by installing the fluorescence-polarization diaphragm presented here, a condenser currently equipped with standard phase contrast diaphragms can be upgraded with this unique function. A detailed description of the capabilities offered by this technique is provided below.

Basic parameters of this phase contrast diaphragm:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany)
Condenser marking: "2". On the Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78 this position is marked in blue
For microscope objectives: to obtain phase contrast operation, use microscope objectives marked "Ph2", i.e. objectives with magnifications from 16x to 40x
Substrate material: glass mounted in a metal holder with a flange
Ring material: polarizing film
Outside diameter of the retaining ring: 22 mm
Glass disc diameter: 16 mm
Retaining ring height: 3.5 mm

Important: this component (phase contrast annulus / phase contrast diaphragm) is not intended for a specific microscope model. It is a component for upgrading or repairing a microscope phase contrast condenser. It is not intended for upgrading or repairing any specific condenser model. Many Carl Zeiss condenser models have a matching opening into which this phase contrast annulus can be installed.

In the Carl Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78, the phase annuli in positions 2 and 3 are not ordinary openings in an opaque mask but openings in a polarizing film. The polarization direction of these annuli is N-S, so the direct light beam that forms the phase contrast image is linearly polarized. Since it is polarized, its intensity can be adjusted continuously with a second polarizer – without any mechanical parts, diaphragms or shutters.

This second polarizer can be any pair of rotatable polarizing filters. In the original Zeiss design, this is the Carl Zeiss light control unit P/N 47 72 20 with two independently rotatable polarizers mounted beneath the condenser. This makes it possible to switch on phase contrast while simultaneously reducing the illumination intensity to a safe level.

- when the polarizer is aligned parallel to the N-S axis of the annulus – full transmission, maximum phase contrast beam, full-strength phase contrast image;
- when the polarizer is crossed (E-W) – the annulus "goes dark", the objective phase plate no longer receives the direct beam, and the phase contrast image disappears;
- when the polarizer is set to intermediate positions – smooth adjustment of the contribution of the phase contrast image.

When the illumination source is a fluorescence lamp (or, of course, an LED FL light source), simply rotating the polarizer beneath the condenser (together with removing the excitation filter) allows the user to switch from a fluorescence image to a conventional phase contrast image. With the polarizer crossed and the excitation filter installed, the phase annulus is extinguished and only pure fluorescence is visible; as the polarizer is rotated, the phase contrast image gradually increases and is superimposed on the fluorescence image. The second polarizer in unit P/N 47 72 20 is additionally used to attenuate the overall illumination intensity (to protect the specimen or to control the specimen's exposure to fluorescence light).

And now an interesting note from the Ultraphot-shop website https://www.microscopeparts.eu/(http://www.the-ultraphot-shop.org.uk/bicolor.htm), © Spike Walker 2007:

Because the annulus is a linear N-S polarizer, it can be used to produce coloured phase contrast: when a two-colour polarizing filter (Cokin type) is placed between the microscope polarizer and the condenser annulus, the specimen takes on the colour of the illuminating annulus against the background colour of the remaining part of the disc – for example, an orange specimen on a green background when using a red-green filter.

This particular phase contrast annulus was removed from a fluorescence phase contrast condenser – an older version of the Zeiss condenser P/N 46 52 78. Before deciding to install it in your condenser, carefully compare the shape of its housing and the dimensions of the retaining ring.

The last photograph in the gallery shows the turret from a Zeiss phase contrast condenser. The arrow indicates the phase contrast annulus offered here, already installed.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenamed 30 mm eyepiece tube for microscope binocular head

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenamed 30 mm eyepiece tube for microscope binocular head

Description of this part for the microscope.

An eyepiece tube with a 30 mm diameter for installation in a Carl Zeiss Jena microscope head.

This is an eyepiece tube without diopter adjustment. ...

Carl Zeiss Jena microscope heads with a wide field of view (German: Grossfeld) have one eyepiece tube with diopter adjustment and a second one without it. Here I present the tube without diopter adjustment (straight eyepiece tube).

Basic parameters:
- Type: straight eyepiece tube
- Compatible eyepiece diameter: 30 mm
- Colour: white

Compatible with 30 mm microscope heads used, among others, in the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalab
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenatech
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert

Some Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalab and Jenamed microscopes (for example the Jenamed Fluorescence) were factory-equipped with binocular heads accepting 23.2 mm eyepieces. In that case this end cap is **not** compatible with that binocular head. By "that" I specifically mean the binocular head, as this is a component of the head rather than of the microscope itself.

Interestingly, 30 mm wide-field binocular heads are also occasionally fitted to older microscopes from the Mikroval series (for example Ergaval and Amplival). When combined with GF-Planachromat or GF-Planapochromat objectives (the latter also used on the Docuval), this provides arguably the best optical combination available for Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes with a 160 mm tube length.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenalumar microscope transmitted light path tube with frosted filter and collimating lens

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenalumar microscope transmitted light path tube with frosted filter and collimating lens

Description of this part for the microscope.

Transmitted-light path assembly with a frosted filter for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval, Jenalumar and similar microscopes.

Compatible with the following Carl Zeiss ...

Jena microscope models:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol
- can also be installed in a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert microscope to add transmitted-light capability

This component is located inside the microscope base. It receives the light beam from the illuminator, homogenises it (by diffusing the image of the lamp filament using a frosted filter acting as a diffuser) and then properly collimates it using a collimating lens. The prepared light beam then passes through another lens before reaching the right-angle mirror (sold as a separate component).

This part is well known on the secondary market among hobbyists and engineers building their own DIY optical projects, where it is frequently reused.

Interestingly, microscope versions intended exclusively for reflected-light operation (for example, the basic versions of the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert) do not contain this component because they do not have a transmitted-light optical path. However, both the microscope arm and the microscope base are identical to those used in transmitted-light models. This makes it possible to upgrade such an EPI microscope for transmitted-light operation by installing the complete lower transmitted-light optical path. The component offered here is one of the parts required for this conversion.

In the last photograph, an arrow indicates where this component is located inside the microscope, making it easy to identify.

The name of this microscope part.

Optical N-117M / Brunel microscope rack for condenser focusing mechanism | BestScope BS-2020 and Delta Optical Genetic Pro compatible

Description of this part for the microscope.

Rack of the condenser height adjustment mechanism of a microscope.

This rack (also referred to as a toothed rack) fits many microscopes based on the N-117M / DN- ...

117M models.

The N-117M / DN-117M is a reasonably good laboratory microscope manufactured in a Chinese NYO factory and sold worldwide under various names. These microscopes are known and sold, among others, as:
- Delta Optical Genetic Pro (mainly in Poland)
- AmScope B340 / T340 (mainly in the USA and the rest of the world through Amazon)
- Labtron LEM-C10 / C11 / C12 (mainly in the United Kingdom)

- Biocare DN-117M (mainly in Peru)
- Viresa N-117M (mainly in Mexico)
- Eurolab DN-117M
- Nexcope N-117M
- Novel N-117M

This is certainly not a complete list – many sellers give their microscopes their own names, just as Delta Optical does in Poland. The best way to check whether this rack fits your microscope is to compare the appearance of your microscope with the microscope from which this rack was removed (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/microscope/optical-n-117m-388).

The N-117M model has a binocular or trinocular microscope head, while the DN-117M model has a built-in digital USB camera (hence the "D" at the beginning of the name, standing for "Digital") – however, the entire body, and therefore also the condenser height adjustment rack, is the same in both models.

Since the rack of the condenser height adjustment mechanism in this microscope model is made of plastic, it is a component that is very frequently damaged.

The name of this microscope part.

Optical N-117M / Brunel coaxial microscope stage control knobs | BestScope BS-2020 and Delta Optical Genetic Pro compatible

Description of this part for the microscope.

Complete control handle (handwheel) of the mechanical XY stage for microscopes based on the N-117M / DN-117M models.

This is a complete control assembly for the ...

mechanical microscope stage, allowing precise movement of the specimen in both the X and Y axes of the stage plane. The manipulator consists of two coaxial knobs, two independent drive shafts and the fixing elements that attach it to the stage mechanism.

The N-117M / DN-117M microscope is a fairly good laboratory microscope manufactured at the Chinese NYO factory and sold worldwide under various names. These microscopes are known and sold, among others, as:
- Delta Optical Genetic Pro (mainly in Poland)
- AmScope B340 / T340 (mainly in the USA and the rest of the world through Amazon)

- Biocare DN-117M (mainly in Peru)
- Viresa N-117M (mainly in Mexico)
- Eurolab DN-117M
- Nexcope N-117M
- Novel N-117M

This is certainly not a complete list – many sellers give the microscopes they sell their own names (just like Delta Optical in Poland). The best way to check whether this microscope part fits your microscope is to compare the appearance of your microscope with the microscope from which this microscope part was removed (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/microscope/optical-n-117m-388).

The N-117M model has a binocular or trinocular head, while the DN-117M model has a built-in digital USB camera (hence the “D” at the beginning of the name, for “Digital”) – but the microscope body is identical, so the stage control handle is also the same in both models.

On the second-hand market and in service documentation one encounters many names referring to this assembly. The most commonly used terms include, among others:
- stage manipulator
- XY stage manipulator
- mechanical stage drive
- stage control knobs
- specimen mover
- coaxial stage drive
- stage drive assembly
- mechanical stage control
- manual XY stage drive
- stage actuator mechanism

Such manipulators very often suffer mechanical damage during transport of the microscope. Because they protrude beyond the outline of the stand, it is precisely they that absorb the impact energy first — in the event of a fall or improper packaging of the instrument.

The N-117M model has a binocular or trinocular head, while the DN-117M model has a built-in digital USB camera (hence the “D” at the beginning of the name, for “Digital”) – but the microscope body and stage are identical, so this rack is also the same in both models.

The last photo in the gallery shows the entire microscope stage from an N-117M type microscope, with an arrow indicating which microscope part is being described and where it is located. This helps prevent any confusion when identifying the microscope part.
