field lens (Zeiss P/N 47 30 68). It can be installed in the tube between the objective nosepiece and the observation head. The lens is operated by a lever protruding from the side of the tube. In the manufacturer's documentation, this lever is referred to as "Switch to turn axis, e.g. with wide field changer 0.8x-1x". If this optional microscope component is not installed, the opening intended for the lever is closed with a plastic blanking plug additionally secured by a retaining screw. This listing includes exactly that end cap and screw.

60-watt illuminator

Instead of the 6-v. 15-w base illuminator, the 60-watt illuminator may be firmly connected to the microscope stand. For this purpose, the collector tube with lamp condenser, 46 70 50, must be removed after unscrewing the bottom plate and replaced by the connecting tube, 46 70 41 (Fig. 15). The 60-watt illuminator is mounted in the usual manner with the aid of a dovetail ring, like a body tube, for example.

The variable transformer is identical to the one for the base illuminator and supplies voltages from 0 ... 20 volts. When this equipment is used, the red scale of the voltmeter applies.

Several important points should be mentioned:
- if your microscope is currently equipped with the standard 6 V 15 W illumination system, the illuminator mounting adapter must also be replaced (this is described in the instruction manual quoted above)
- the lamp house of this illuminator is finished in grey. Some Carl Zeiss Standard series microscopes have black, cream or hammered-finish housings. This illuminator is mechanically compatible with those models, although the colour may not be an aesthetically perfect match
- power supplies with a rated output of exactly 60 W are virtually unavailable on the second-hand market. In practice, 12 V 100 W power supplies are used to operate this light source
- please note that exactly the same (!) illuminator is also used on the Zeiss IM 35 / ICM 405 inverted microscopes. Please also refer to the description of illuminator No. 00697 in this database. YES - these are exactly the same illuminators. However, that particular unit was removed from an inverted microscope and therefore has its own separate description. You will also find additional photographs there. In the Zeiss IM 35 instruction manual, the lamp socket is referred to as "Lamp socket 60 P/N 46 80 15", while the lamp house is referred to as "Lamp housing with lamp condenser P/N 46 72 27"
